Vision, Values, Mission
SpeakingLife is a developing non-profit organization with a goal to educate and empower individuals to advocate for their health and well-being, and to address the issue of inconsistent communication practices in healthcare settings. Our vision is to promote family-centered through education and connecting individuals with likeminded community partners to meet each individual’s unique needs. The mission of our organization is to shift a culture change to put the social and emotional needs of patients and staff at the forefront of care to promote positive experiences and health outcomes.
SpeakingLife was established following the death of Timothy Daniel Reardon who passed away due to complications of COVID-19 in September, 2020. Timothy caught COVID-19 during the second wave in Arizona in early July and spent 65 days in the hospital until he went to be with the Lord. Timothy was a police officer for the city of Glendale, AZ for 27 years and during that time was commonly known for his generosity, kindness and caring for others ahead of his own needs. His family, including founder Samantha Casselman, spent his hospital stay restricted from visitation and left to navigate his care remotely. Through her experience, Samantha has taken her knowledge as a nurse practitioner and loss as a daughter to create a grassroots movement to improve family-centered care in all areas of healthcare.
Samantha Casselman, DNP, RN, CPNP-PC, is an Arizona native and began her journey in healthcare in 2002 when she started volunteering at Thunderbird Medical Center. She began her nursing career as a certified nursing assistant and has been a Doctorate trained Pediatric Nurse Practitioner since 2015. Samantha has been active in serving her community through the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners where she has held a Presidential role in the Arizona state chapter and she is the founder of the Dermatology Special Interest group at the national level. Samantha has a passion for quality improvement and has developed patient education programs for chronic health conditions such as atopic dermatitis. Her passion for patient education has been recognized nationally and she has been an invited speaker to discuss atopic dermatitis management since 2017.
Samantha values her relationship with the Lord above all else which motivates her to care deeply for others. She is a proud mother of 3 and has been married to her best friend and husband Matthew since 2009. Samantha strives for a healthy work-life balance and enjoys hiking, exercising, serving in the community and making lasting relationships.
